Getting Started
How do I install Cellophane?
- Visit the Chrome Web Store (link coming soon)
- Click "Add to Chrome"
- Confirm the installation when prompted
- The Cellophane icon will appear in your browser toolbar
- Click the icon to activate on any webpage
Do I need an account?
You can use basic features without an account, but creating a free account enables:
- Saving your annotations
- Syncing across devices
- Privacy controls
- Creating and joining groups
Is Cellophane free?
Yes! Cellophane is currently free during our beta period. We're focused on building the best product possible with your feedback.
Features
How do I add a comment?
- Click the Cellophane icon to activate the extension
- Write your comment in the Cellophane panel
- You can add an image, video (up to 20MB), or audio recording (up to 1 minute)
- Choose privacy settings (Private, Groups, or Public)
- Click "Post" to save
What are privacy settings?
You control who sees each comment:
- Private: Only you can see it
- Groups: Only members of groups you created or belong to can see and write
- Public: Anyone using Cellophane can see it
Can I edit or delete comments?
Yes! Click on any of your comments to see options to edit or delete. Deleted comments are removed immediately from public view.
Privacy & Security
Is my data safe?
Absolutely. We use industry-standard encryption (e.g., TLS 1.3 in transit and AES-256 at rest) for all data. We never sell your personal information. Read our full Privacy Policy for details.
How is my content used for AI?
Your content may be anonymized and aggregated to improve our AI features. We remove personal identifiers and apply privacy‑preserving techniques, wherever feasible before any AI processing. You can opt-out at any time by emailing privacy@cellophane.ai.
Can websites block Cellophane?
Website owners can request to opt-out of Cellophane functionality on their sites. We respect these requests while working to find collaborative solutions.
Troubleshooting

Account Settings
How do I change my password?
Go to Settings → Security → Change Password. You'll need to enter your current password and choose a new one.
How do I delete my account?
Go to Settings → Account → Delete Account. This will permanently delete your account and all associated data within a reasonable time (typically up to 30 days). This action cannot be undone.
How do I export my data?
Go to Settings → Privacy → Export Data. You'll receive a JSON file with all your comments, settings, and account information.
Content Moderation
Why was my content removed?
Content is removed for violating our Community Guidelines. Common reasons include:
- Spam or commercial content
- Harassment or hate speech
- Misinformation
- Copyright infringement
How do I appeal a moderation decision?
Email appeals@cellophane.ai within a reasonable time (typically up to 30 days) with:
- Your case number (from the notification email)
- Why you believe the decision was incorrect
- Any supporting context

Who can use Cellophane?
Minimum age is 13. In the EEA, ages 13–15 require parental/guardian consent; in the UK and other regions, the minimum is 13+.
